Opalescence whitener

Since I reviewed Colgate’s visible white tooth whitening gel I’d like to give Opalescence a shot. Most dentists recommend Visible White but I’d like to at least give you the low down on the competitor. This teeth whitening system is only found in the dentist’s office. You can however get the tooth whitening refills gels at retailers and dental offices.

Getting to know the tooth whitener-

During your first visit to the dentist they will determine what your current tooth shade. The tooth shade will be used as a benchmark to track tooth whitening progress. The dentist will then use a dental dam to shield your gums from the opalescence teeth whitening gel since this can cause irritation to your gums.

The whitening gel that is applied to your teeth is left to set for about fifteen minutes until dry. Usually for the initial visit this process maybe is done multiple times to ensure coverage. This initial process will end up totaling approximately an hour to an hour and a half. At times a dentist will use a laser or even curing light along with the whitener but it isn’t necessary just depends on the condition of the teeth. The Opalescence product is not dependant on any laser treatments to work, that would make the product inferior to others that have no dependencies.

After the first visit to the dentist you’ll have the choice of continuing the treatments in the dental office or from the comfort of your own home. Some people prefer to take the dental tray home with them to continue the treatments. Ultimately the decision is between the patient and the dentist. The dental tray is made by your dentist and this is what you’ll take home with you.

When you get home and are ready to continue on with the tooth whitening gel treatments you’ll first apply the gel to the inside of the dental trays. You will need to keep the trays in your mouth for a few hours during the day or sometimes at night, mostly depends on the recommendation from your dentist. The flavors that are offered are mint, melon or flavorless so you can enjoy the whitening process. Try and pick a flavor that you can tolerate since you’ll have the dental trays in your mouth for a while. This is one of the downsides to this system. The visible white system I reviewed you only need the trays in your mouth for a 1/2 hour which is one of the reasons I like it better.
